Appearance: (or rather his vessel Jimmy Novak) has short brown hair and blue eyes. He stands just under six feet and he always wears a black suit, blue tie, white shirt and a trench coat (undone). He looks 34 (That being Jimmy's age).

History:

Castiel is an angel of the Lord. He has been to Earth before but not for 2000 years. He has been sent down again to assist Dean and Sam Winchester, he thinks to stop the apocalypse, but they have all been tricked by his angelic superiors into bringing it on.
When he first appears he is officious and efficient, all business. As he goes along doubt begins to creep in along with other traits. Being around Dean causes him to relax just a little and he is more able to connect emotionally though he is still much more stilted than a human.
After a short time with the Winchesters Castiel is paired with another angel, Uriel. He is also called upon to capture a fallen angel which he, at first, is willing to do without mercy or question but on meeting Anna again it becomes clear he does not relish his task.
The decision is taken from his hands when, during a fight with demons, Anna steals her grace back from Uriel.
Castiel discovers Uriel is killing his fellow angels, those who will not turn on humanity and help bring on the apocalypse. He fights Uriel but is losing. Anna arrives and kills Uriel for Castiel. Now confused and in doubt when some of the things his siblings are doing appear to be against God’s plan, Cas is desperate for guidance and turns to Anna for it as he knows she is independent but she only tells him he has to make up his own mind.
It is around this time his allegiance begins to waver as he struggled with what to do next.
He has done what would be considered terrible things on orders from Heaven because he believed in God’s justice, however, when he finds out orders have been coming from those out for their own interests, and after (and possibly partly because) he is challenged by Dean, he finally rebels against Heaven and tries to follow his original mission to help stop the apocalypse and keep Lucifer trapped in Hell.
His efforts led to him being killed by the archangel Raphael but this is not the end of him. He is resurrected by (he assumes) God and goes on to reunite with Dean and Sam and fight on.

Since his resurrection he has become more direct, bitter and angry.
